The American Legion Family Cabin Grand Opening
When we took over Camp American Legion in April of 2017, I never imagined the progress we would make in such a short period of time. Yet, here we are reaching another milestone in our plans for renovating the infrastructure of our facilities. This has been a long awaited project that we took to heart. The American Legion Family Cabin will be opening at the end of May 2021. The primary purpose of the cabin will be to serve families of the fallen. The cabin features two bedrooms, a full service kitchen, a beautiful large family room, a quite sunroom and a large elevated deck overlooking Little Lake Tomahawk. The cabin design went through several revisions until my simple, functional design made the cut. If the cabin opening is not exciting enough, the way in which the cabin project was funded adds to the meaning even more.
The name says it all... The American Legion Family Cabin! Every organization within our Legion family has made significant contributions to the funding of the project. Our Wisconsin Legion members themselves made large donations. In addition, the American Legion Axillary, The American Legion Riders, The 40/8, Past Department Commander Frank's ride and the Cabin Sponsor, Grafton Sons of the American Legion, all joined together to raise the funds for this project. In fact, the funds were raised only a few short months after the designs were approved.
This project represents the Mission, Vision and Values of Camp American Legion and the Department of Wisconsin American Legion. It also shows our immense abilities to succeeded when we all work together to achieve a common goal.
We are very proud and humbled to be able to offer this cabin of healing and peace to families of the fallen and veterans across the state of Wisconsin. We could not have done this without the support of so many wonderful people. We are beyond thankful!
